Identify potter wasp species based on the shape of their nest

Post by dlpn »

Hi :)
would it be possible to identify the exact species of a potter wasp by looking at the shape of its nest? For example, here is a picture of a nest taken in southern Austria:

Thank you all in advance! :D

I'd assume so. You're going to need a guide book. Less "popular" insects can be difficult to find literature for, you'd probably be lucky to find a book
about European wasps, although maybe someone has a database on social media.

Thank you! I'll start searching for a guide book then :)
