wing shape. With long (almost stretched) forewings
followed by quite broad (shorter) hindwings; the group
is unmistakeable. Most are gaily colored with bright
yellows and oranges. Many are (about) the size of a
Cabbage White (P. rapae).
On a trip to Bolivia in 1989 I encountered this quite
small Dismorphia sp. (the only example) and netted it.
At only 40mm wingspan (tip to tip) is remains the smallest
example which I have ever seen. Surprisingly, it also "bucks
the trend" of this genus being gaily colored !
It still wears its original field label for which I shall soon
make a better one .
