Fixing labels to the bottom of cabinets
Fixing labels to the bottom of cabinets
Dear All,
I always kept the labels with the collection info on the specimen pin beneath the bug. I am going to print labels for some insects to be affixed to the bottom of a cabinet next to the specimen. Can anyone tell me how to fix these "external" labels to the plastozote? I do not like to glue them. Should I use minuten pins for this purpose?
Please advise.

Yes small headless cabinet points or minuten pins are the best way to put any sort of labels in drawers.

Please do not remove the labels on the specimen pins and replace them with labels pinned to the bottom of the drawer. If you put labels in the drawer you should always have at least place and date on a label on the specimen pin.lamprima2 wrote: Sun Apr 13, 2025 12:00 am I always kept the labels with the collection info on the specimen pin beneath the bug. If there is only a label below the specimens on the bottom of the drawer it is inevitable that the specimens and the data will eventually become separated or mixed up, if not by you then by someone else in future.

I believe he was suggesting he was going to print extra labels to pin to the drawer bottom. Obviously it is never a good idea to remove labels from the pin.

I just wanted to stress the importance of labels on specimen pins, not only for lamprima2 but also particularly for any other readers, especially newer enthusiasts.

When I’ve done this I make a larger, more readable label and keep it in place with a #3 pin. Easy.
Re: Fixing labels to the bottom of cabinets
I do place species name labels ( usually for butterflies only, too many moth species to bother) also below the column of specimens and I attach to the bottom with #1 or #2 pins. Minutens are less visible but on the other hand are more difficult to reach between the specimens in case of rearrangement.
Once I used double sided tape but it is almost impossible to move the label without damaging it so this technique could work for drawers that most likely will never be rearranged.

Thank you all for your advice.
Adam, I will not remove the old labels from the
specimen pins. The labels fixed to the bottom of
the drawer are in addition to the original ones.
