Zebra Swallowtail (Eurytides marcellus)

Post by Trehopr1 »

I have to give a nod' to our native Zebra Swallowtail (Eurytides marcellus)
for having the longest tails of any papilionid here AND the most exotic
appearance.

Though the spring brood specimens are a welcome sight; it is the later
summer brood ones with their much longer tails (fully 2 in.+) which
"steal the show".

It really is surprising how easy it is to lose sight of one in a clover field
as the color/pattern break-up the butterflies appearance. Effectively,
allowing them to hide in plain sight.

Below, I show this magnificent species in two different spread positions.
