Pyristia proterpia

Post by 58chevy »

Common name is the Tailed Orange. Native to southwestern USA. The winter form (pictured) has "tails", summer form has rounded hindwings. These specimens are obviously worn. I don't have any in pristine condition.

The ones you got there might be a bit worn, but hey, they still rock! Even if they're not in pristine condition, they're a solid addition to your collection. Thank you for sharing!

That certainly is a pretty little number 58chevy !
Sometimes, we just have to be happy with what we are able to get as there are no guarantees with self-collected specimens.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful species with us.

Here is a pair I got from Ken Thorne in Canada some years back. My only pair. A very striking little butterfly.
Data for male shown. Female's data is the same.
