The no data but, nice specimen....

Every now and again I run across specimens for sale
which are for the lack of data. I reject most of them
because without scientific value (provinence) they're
not worth much except for artwork.

However, once in a while I will run across something I've
not seen before AND it really grabs me for its uniqueness
and well prepared/spread appearance.

I might never see another like it so, I take exception
to its lack of data. Surprises, sometimes do show up
and should not be passed-over for being "fickle".

Here is one I noticed recently. A beautiful species of
South American origins (I believe) but, I cannot seem to
find what species it is....

Can someone help ? Is it unique or just common ?

This is Eurytides asius, an uncommon species from south-eastern Brazil to Paraguay. Its relationship with other Eurytides is unclear, and Möhn (2002) named a separate subgenus Asiographium specifically for this species.

It would be nice to see things that others have acquired which are (unique) and albeit --- with no data.

This sadly happens sometimes however, it does not necessarily take away from the grandeur of the species involved.

My son found this moth and saved it for me, without data. This picture is not the one he found but is the same species (Composia credula). It is found on several Caribbean islands and is closely related to C. fidelissima, which has generally the same range but breeds as far north as the Miami area. I have a pair of fidelissima in my collection and was excited to add this species. I emailed my son to get the collecting info but so far haven't heard back from him. I remember that he went scuba diving in Jamaica last summer, so I suspect that's where he got it.

It is beautiful moth indeed.
I collected one specimen in Sosua, Dominican Republic few years ago.
It is day flying species.

Fantastic self- capture Paul !

I never saw this species when I was in the D.R. but, I have seen a couple offered in the last 2 years on eBay which unfortunately garnered some surprising prices with all the bidding.

I just came back today from my trip to DR near Samana and I didn’t encounter this species this time.
Could be local or seasonal species
