Insect artwork (commercial)
Insect artwork (commercial)
It seems that commercial insect artwork of
one kind or another is out there in the market
place for those with such a fancy.
It only takes a sharp eye to spy unique "finds"
with which to decorate one's humble abode or
"collection room".
Below, are some recent one's that were spotted.
Wall frame measuring 18 in. (height) / 14 in. (width)
Halloween themed (Acherontia) image.
Halloween themed (Goliathus) bookshelf curio.

Re: Insect artwork (commercial)
I've picked up a few different science related pieces on Ebay, some are very nice, there was/is a German scientist who drew many prints,
Haeckel Kunstformen, if I've got that right. You can spend a lot of time looking.

I rather like finding these curio's (here and there) in various stores. Sometimes, I'll even buy one but, I only take pictures of the ones that I find which bear the closest resemblance to something in real life.
There is a measure of butterfly related images on all kinds of products out there however, more often than not the patterns and colors are unnatural to the wing form depicted.

One of the better items I've seen and purchased
for my science/fiction room is this splendid piece
I noticed in a curio shop earlier this year.
Could'nt resist this temptation so skillfully done
and presented. Likely an enlargement taken from
an antiquated book. A treasure of a sort which I will
hopefully long admire....

These cast iron beetle boot jacks (and numerous variations of the design) have been in production for probably a century or more, and I've seen them in many places over the years, though what particular type of beetle they were loosely modeled after, I'm not sure. A cerambycid, perhaps? -
Re: Insect artwork (commercial)
I saw that offered in a store once and they were indeed solid metal. I didn't purchase it but, I did find it curious and indeed the cerambycid "form" came to mind !
Re: Insect artwork (commercial)
Saw one of the boot jacks yesterday in a junk store in a small semi-tourist town. Didn't catch the price because I don't need more stuff.

That's a spectacular piece of art.

Sean Goddard is a Canadian artist, specializing in metal and glass sculptures of insects. His artwork, primarily of beetles, are very colorful, stylized renditions from a variety of families as well as a few other insect orders (link below). I have a couple of his pieces mounted on a wall above the stairs leading down to the collection room and yes, I am a beetle collector.

Those are all mighty nice pieces !
I especially like the batocera, nut weevil, and magenta spotted weevil sculptures.
Of course anytime I "really like something" it is usually out of the price range I can afford.
I could get a fair few insect specimens for the price of one of these so I'll stick with the insects specimens...
