Re: refrigeration of adult lepidoptera and lifespan
I've used this method many times in the past and didn't notice reduced fertility, but I rarely kept them in the fridge for more than a few days. My fridge is always set at 4 degrees C. The insects are not fully dormant and do become weaker over time, I guess it's not too dissimilar to a cold day in ...

Re: Genus name of subspecies
Yes. Subspecies are just a subset of a species, species are a subset of a genus, and genera are a subset of a family. Any changes made at any level carry on down the chain.

Hi All,
The ability to write is a dying art. I went to the pharmacy today to pick up a prescription and there was a sign reading "Respiratory illnesses are up in your area. Protect yourself today by asking your pharmacist to get a vaccination." So, I asked the pharmacist if she had her vaccines ...

Adam
I believe he was suggesting he was going to print extra labels to pin to the drawer bottom. Obviously it is never a good idea to remove labels from the pin.

the coupon post is spam and can be deleted. Please correct me

Re: New tariff on insects for American collectors ?
Sure, when Britain left EU, they add "tariff" on EU parcels.
In France, we have this 20% VAT on all parcels outside of EU now, and we don't have it when the parcels come from the EU. That's what an economic union is about : free trade.
Yep, we have 20% VAT on everything coming from outside ...

Re: New tariff on insects for American collectors ?
Maybe so, but eBay never added it before Brexit in January 2020, and before that, all countries outside the EU were subject to 20% VAT.Chuck wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 12:28 pm eBay only does what the government makes them do. The government elects to have a 20% VAT. They could have made it zero.

Re: New tariff on insects for American collectors ?
Yep, when Brexit came in, eBay started charging us 20% VAT on evertything from the EU AND the rest of the world, which had never previously happened. This means that everything bought on eBay now costs 20% more, which is why I never use it anymore, along with, I'm sure, many other people. Yet ...

I spent a month collecting in Kyrgyzstan with Henri and his wife Arlette in 1999. I also bumped into them in China and we met regularly at Juvisy. They were both good company and Henri was an absolute fount of knowledge about all things Lepidoptera.
Very sad news!

I remember many years ago on a trip to northeast Spain in September, seeing a large Wisteria growing round the entrance to some botanic gardens. At the time, the Wisteria had large seedpods on it, and these were covered with eggs of Lampides boeticus and Leptotes pirithous.

I had some priamus poseidon and goliath pupae once. They all emerged a bit crippled, but the priamus were green on emergence.
I've also seen priamus once or twice in buttefly houses here in England, although it was many years ago.

I've got one of the leather ones that a Japanese guy kindly gave me when I admired it on one of my collecting trips to Kyrgyzstan many years ago.

I reared glaucus here in the UK for a few years many years ago, which I reeared on Ash, although I don't know which form they were. I always got a spring brood which produced a summer brood in August. A small number of these went into diapause which produced the following year's spring brood, but ...

Re: Morpho abdomens
Morpho abdomens are always removed in the field to prevent grease from the abdomen spreading to the wings, althought this is ususally only done for males, as females aren't prone to greasing. Reliable suppliers will supply the abdomens separately so they can be degreased and reattached afterwards ...
