Re: Rare Delias butterflies
Thank you for sharing many rare and beautiful Delias species. Several species found in Solomon Islands are quite attractive. But it is hard to get the chance to access their habitat. One of my senior colleagues is a lucky person to visit Bismark Islands. He collected messalina , shunichii , salvini ...

Re: Rare Delias butterflies
Thank you Adam for your link. Ting was truly a great butterfly/insect collector! His materials include numerous new and interesting species. I noticed some of the family (Papilionidae) or group (for example Zephyrus Hairstreaks of Lycaenidae) are missing in the webpage. If it is possible, I would li...

Re: Long-tailed lycaenid (North India)
Dear Trehopr1 Thank you for sharing an interesting specimen obtained as old as 1935! At that time, India was a part of British. This lycaenid is a male of Ticherra acte , Blue Imperial. This species is not common at lowland/montane forest in India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos or China. I am int...

Re: Marine Blue (Leptotes marina)
Indeed, mokky your hypothesis is correct ! My friend shares the same sentiments in that this species is at best a temporary resident here in the state likely blown in via big storms. Several of our "plains" states experience springtime tornado activity which is thought to carry things alo...

Re: New paper - Graphium septentrionicolus
Thank you Adam for your new work. I am very much interested in Himalaya butterfly fauna. This new discovery is amazing. I always take it for granted that Graphium sarpedon is one stable species although it shows great individual/seasonal variations. It must be interesting to compare early stages of ...

Re: Marine Blue (Leptotes marina)
Thank you very much for sharing interesting information with us. I am not familiar with Lycaenidae in America but I would like to tell you my guess. Judging from the information described in BOA site (https://butterfliesofamerica.com/leptotes_marina.htm), this species had been obtained from Mexico, ...

Ssp hachijonis from Hachimo- Jima, spring and summer forms. Hi, Yorky-san. FYI, "Hachimo- Jima" is not correct. "Hachijo-jima" is the true name. "Jima" means "island" in Japanese. Hachijo-jima is located ca.300 km south of central Tokyo (but is indeed a part ...

A tribute to the memory of the late Nishiyama Yasusuke
Dear all colleagues, Japanese insect society lost a great talent last April. The late Mr. Nishiyama Yasusuke (1947-2022) was a professional insect dealer and renowned Lepidopterist. Maybe many of you know the historic series, "Butterflies of the South East Asian Islands". He was the co-aut...

Re: Achillides
On Achillides, I have been interested in a rare Himalayan species, elephenor . This species is not at all beautiful as most relatives. But its rarity is overwhelming. It was re-discovered after decades from NE India in 2009. After this finding, a few additional records are known from Assam and West ...

Re: Achillides
In Japan Papilio(Achillides) maackii ranges from far north to as south as Yakushima, southeastern island. It shows splendid seasonal and individual variation. Many colleagues are crazy about this swallowtail. In general, spring form of northern population is beautiful. One of my friends put the pupa...

Re: Iphiclides podalirinus
Here is a female of Iphiclides podalirinus collected in Yunnan, SW China. Collecting data tells it was obtained in August, seems late for this species. But usually females live much longer than males. So it may be precise. This specimen is preserved in RIEB (The Research Institute of Evolutionary Bi...

Re: A living jewel, Thermozephyrus ataxus
Thank you all for your comments. I am looking for western population of this fantastic Lycaenid, nominotypical subspecies, ataxus. It ranges from Pakistan to NW India (as east as Uttarakhand?). Old literatures tell it is locally common but in recent years very few records available. Is there anybody...
