I would bet on September 23/24 but let's check.
I won't be able to attend it this year as I should be in New Guinea in end September.

Dr Doolittle says in the film that it has a 60 ft wingspan !
Using a staff he roughly carves out its image in the sand of an island shoreline --- where it will land to pick him up.

If the locality in the data label is incorrect I recommend stating the original data followed by 'loc. err. = XXX'
If the stated data is retained, then it has not been 'lost' if it is subsequently found to be correct.

I've faced this issue. Presuming the data label(s) says Kanchanaburi, does one change the label? Add a corrective label?adamcotton wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 9:55 pmPerhaps the correct data is Chantaburi (similar sounding name, especially the shortened spoken Thai form "Kanburi" versus "Chanburi").
S. cambodia does not occur in Kanchanaburi, which is in WEST Thailand, it is only found in SE Thailand and SW Cambodia. Almost all specimens in collections are from Chantaburi.

Adam.
I've had labels that I am quite certain are incorrect; and by "figuring out" the most likely location, it would make sense to "correct" the label. On the other hand, my field work has expanded the known ranges of dozens of species, some by hundreds of kilometers. I've been told "species does not occur there" yet, there I am holding a fresh specimen. And I recall at least in one case I'd "corrected" a label, only to later discover that in fact the original label was, as unlikely as it was, correct. So I no longer correct labels.
So what is the recommended data labeling action?

Juvisy insect fair 2023
by morpho4me » Fri Jan 27, 2023 11:49 am
I know it is very early but has the Juvisy insect fair date been scheduled yet for late September, 2023? I realize that it is usually the last weekend of the month. So, would it be the weekend of 23-24, September or possibly the following weekend of 30 September- 1 October? For those of us coming from overseas much advanced planning is necessary. Thank you for your help. Sincerely,
morphonut.

I am a little familiar with the pushmepullyou as a model kit.
Somehow calling it a "lunar" moth seems to add a little magic.
Movies did mean a lot when us older persons were innocent and impressionable,
I remember being quite upset and concerned when that whale swallowed Pinocchio.

Re: A new ssp of Papilio saharae from Lampedusa

Superb work Adam! As always!adamcotton wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 10:53 am This paper was published (open access) today:
Cassar, L-F., Catania, A. & A.M. Cotton 2023. A new subspecies of Papilio saharae Oberthür, 1879 (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae)
from Lampedusa, Italy. Zootaxa 5231(1): 65–78.
DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5231.1.5
Abstract
An investigation into the only representative of the genus Papilio on the island of Lampedusa, the largest island of the Pelagian group, was conducted as part of a broader Mediterranean-wide study on the machaon complex. Over a three year period, adults, larvae and ova were collected for further research during field visits, while an in-house breeding programme involving wild-collected gravid females was initiated with a view to examine an adequately sized series of specimens. A total of 38 adults, including 23 male specimens, >150 ova, 233 larvae, and 220 pupae were examined. In addition to a thorough morphometric assessment, statistical tests were performed using one-way ANOVA and multivariate analysis. Results demonstrate morphological characters of P. saharae and, to a lesser degree, of P. machaon, suggesting that the taxon is plausibly the outcome of a hybrid swarm whose occurrence on the island was facilitated by Pleistocene lowstands (when the island was physically connected with the north African continental landmass, the taxon’s centre of origin). Based on results, involving all four stages of metamorphosis, it is proposed to ‘anchor’ the taxon to Papilio saharae Oberthür, 1879 and assign it subspecific status, aferpilaggi ssp. nov.

I did it on Expedia, but it wouldn't show up if I MIA -> CAY, I had to find FDF to CAY, then backtrack MIA to FDF
Sorry, I think in airport codes.
