Junonia ansorgei

Previously placed in Kallima I believe
Pair shown upper & underside. Annoyingly one of the hindwing tails on the female curved downward after setting. I may try & rectify that in the future. Its better seen in the photo of the verso.
Bottom picture shows two more males.

Originally described as a species of Kallima by Rothschild in 1889, was moved to Junonia in 1984, then to a new genus Kamilla in 1991, then back to Junonia in 2005.

How often do you encounter this species in the field?
Most books that I have seen describe it as uncommon.

According to Ducarme, who collected extensively in Nord Kivu, it's very common at altitude (particularly around Butuhe, Nord Kivu which is at ~2000m).
I have it from one locality (at 1250m), collected along a small river which has heavily disturbed forest on one bank and some stretches of primary forest along the other. Only 3 specimens collected.

That's good news to hear that .its still common in some localities at least. All my specimens are from the same locality in Uganda. (Kalinzu Forest, Bushenyi)

Much of Kalinzu Forest is above 1400m, with peaks at above 1800m.
