Hi All,

I'm preparing some old material from papers and I have a label that I cannot interpret. I do know that this begins as 'AUSTRIA, Carinthia' and ends with 'July 1980' (the species is clear - Leptura arcuata), Can anybody interpret the third word? I get "Prussin..." but the last three letters have me stumped. And is this an abbreviation of a longer word?

It is Prüssing which is the German family name.
The last two letters maybe jr or qr

This is no family name. It is the abbreviation Prössinggr. for Prössinggraben (this is a valley in Eastern Carinthia).
Greetings from Austria

Greetings,

Paul K - Thanks - I was considering that, but it seemed an odd order to have locality/collector/date

Tameamea - Thank you for clarifying this. I wasn't sure I was seeing 'gr.' or 'gn' on the end, and no place name came up on any of the mapping tools I have or through Google. When in doubt, go to the source. And a big 'Thank you!' from Pennsylvania!!

Cheers!
