Pierella (satyrines)

Another beautiful genus of butterflies which I
encountered only briefly whilst in Bolivia was
Pierella. These satyrine butterflies have larger
hindwings than forewings which is unique among
butterflies. The general shape (design) of the
wings is pleasing in itself and there are often
eyespots present along with red, green, or yellow
"flash" colors caused by diffraction.

The butterflies are not easy to spot in the dappled
shadows and shady places along footpaths of the
rainforest.

Despite my efforts to find them where I could see
shaded zones; I only found this one specimen which
I was fortunate enough to net before it fluttered
back into the safety of the forest.

Great you have a self caught one Trehopr. Not lucky enough to see any from this genus while I was in South America.
