current favorite Rhodinia verecunda

My favorite tends to be the one around at the time. A fresh hatched moth. Rhodinia verecunda, raised on ceanothus.
An amazing animal, they hatch in the fall, or in my case winter, hatched outdoors, in 40 and 50 degree weather.
Not the normal moth, it's been cold, wet and a little fall colored beauty pops out to show off.

Ah, I was wondering if there was a local species in NW USA or not.
We have a different species here in Chiang Mai (well, only on a few high mountains ~1,700 m.asl.),
Rhodinia newara, which emerges in November when it is starting to get cold. It appears when
Salassa lemaii finishes.
I have a friend at the Bangkok Entomology Museum (EMBT) who studies Thai Saturniidae, which is why I know a little about these.
