I caught a fine specimen of this species in August 2015 in Madera Canyon, AZ. It was the first example I'd ever seen of this butterfly, apart from in books. The larvae feed on various species of oaks -

Lovely photo of the caterpillar. I saw California sisters (A califonica) in & around Yosemite National Park on my first visit to the U.S.A. back in 1987. Was stuck by their great beauty & unbelievably graceful flight. This specimen dates from 2002 & was bred in Pomona CA
