Strange..more Hebomoia than Stichophthalma I think. Possibly artistic license taken with a heavily marked female Hebomoia? Here is a recently set pair of Hebomoia glaucippe formosana with a heavily spotted female as an example.livingplanet3 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 1:36 am I spotted this Hebomoia / Stichophthalma hybrid while shopping this morning -
Indeed - I wasn't aware that some female H. glaucippe had hindwing markings quite so bold as the example in your photo. Are they usually only that pronouned in ssp. formosana? When I saw the diamond-shaped markings in the artwork, the first thing I thought of was the similar pattern on the hindwings of many Stichophthalma species. In any case though, yes, some artistic license has been taken.
No, not only in subspecies formosana but also as here in ssp. atura from Malaysia & the nominate ssp. from Viet Namlivingplanet3 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 4:49 amIndeed - I wasn't aware that some female H. glaucippe had hindwing markings quite so bold as the example in your photo.
