A rare Agrias phalcidon fournierae form rebillardi. Even rarer than the typical rebillardi form, this is a bicolor form with purple below the red patch. There are few other bicolor rebillardi specimens known. The purple effect is due to a red suffusion mixed in the blue in these 2 cells...

On the topic of Agrias ( apologies to those that are shaking their fingers in admonishment ) yes, I said Agrias, is there anyone who can tell me the paper that puts Agrias in Prepona.
Can't find online.

A couple more of my Agrias with data
Female A claudina croesus from Kempton Show London.
Male A sardanapalus lugina form godmani from Chuck Ianni.

Dave, the correct ID of your second Agrias is a Agrias claudina lugina form orleansi.
Please note that "sardanapalus" is a ssp of claudina (from Iquitos, Venezualian Amazonas, Brazilian Amazonas & Rondonia)
Please note that "godmani" is a ssp of claudina too (from Mato Grosso).

As Agrias is a very complex group (with a lot of hybridization and forms), there are a lot of errors in books and collections.

If I had to recommend one book to start studying them, Manfred Späth's monography about Agrias is the best one and it is not expensive at all.
Then to better understand forms, Floquet's volumes are a must (but hard to find).

Hi Wollastoni, a question for you .
I see Floquets books as stated being 2 books.
But on insectnet market place see attachment, 2023 book.
As I'm in the need of his book/ books, is this 2023 publication covering all species/ subspecies and forms ?

Yes the 2023 publication is the last edition covering all species, subspecies, forms (and even hybrids). A crazy amount of work !

I notice that most Agrias collections are mainly male specimens, is it because females are rarer or males are more attractive.?
I would have thought that a collection of pairs would be a preference

I'm entering a new phase in my collecting now that I am working full-time and out of school (YAY!). Currently, I'm expanding my South American Nymphalidae. I finally snagged my favorite species of butterfly of all time (Agrias narcissus) for a reasonable price. I also have some other nice Agrias on the way.

Congratulations are in order for finishing up your schooling.

Very nice to see you once again posting some of your acquisitions. Have missed your presence here on the forum but, hope to see more of you here now as youthful collectors help to invigorate our forum !

A. narcissus is certainly a grand start in the genus and females of just about anything are just "icing on the cake" for one's collection.
