Speyeria cybele charlottii

The Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele) covers
a wide range in North America from southern Canada
on into the continental U.S. (from coast to coast).
So far, this species has 9 subspecies attributed to its name.
The most far-flung (western) subspecies is S. c. pugetensis
which is found in the area of Puget Sound in Washington state.
Numerous other subspecies are found throughout other states
out west. This example, is yet another of the subspecies.
I ran across this excellent (bred) example of S. c. charlottii
recently in a field box full of various fritillary species. It really
stood out amongst the (cybele) selection for its unique light
coloration. This subspecies hails from the area of Glenwood
Springs, Garfield County, Colorado.
