A recent addition to my collection is this
bred pair of Antheraea paphia (formerly A. mylitta).
This species is variable in its coloration (depending
on the food source. I found at least 3 distinct color
variations just among the males that I surveyed.

Generally, I tend to lean more towards butterflies
in my purchase or trade desires but, saturniids and
catocala do sway my interest if the specimens are
well presented in preparation and label data.

Below, I present my acquired pair.

The female is a "horse" of a specimen at 161mm.

Females of this species also exhibit another
color (form) other than the previous medium
brown one shown. This stunning yellow version
is equally as large as the previous and remains
as one of the 35+ specimens of fine saturniidae
I've acquired over the years.

A. youngi The female is huge.

I've never seen the (female) of A. godmani
or the (male) of A. youngi: both are fantastic
finds.

That A.youngi (female) is a tremedous specimen
and dwarfs A. mylitta --WOW !

I remember a former member (panzerman) posting
the only other photograph I've ever seen of this
marvelous species. Billg once showed a (male) A.
godmani that he had but, whether he still has it I
have no idea as he downsized his collection.

Any chance that you could measure the wing expanse
(tip - tip) in mm.
Since my larger (brown) A. mylitta specimen measured
in at 161mm. I'd like to know how they compare.

My female A. mylitta measures at 152mm. The female A. youngi measures at 190mm.
That is one big girl!

Wow, chris what a "gigantosaur" specimen.
