Atrophaneura hageni

Post by daveuk »

Always led to believe that this was a full species. Am now reading that it is considered a sub species of A priapus.
A pair from Sumatra. Female is shown recto & verso.

It is certainly closely related to A. priapus but I don't think it's conspecific. I have not read or seen any evidence for this, where did you see it?

The Atrophaneura priapus page is very poor, without any reference to a publication which includes hageni as a subspecies. I suppose they treat luchti as a separate species - that is A. priapus. They even suggest that A. sycorax may be conspecific, which of course it isn't.
