Polyura jupiter may not be the largest, nor the showiest, but it's my favorite of the genus.

The female shown is typical size. I did briefly have a much larger female, but it was at the time (and maybe still today) the only known specimen from San Christobal, so Tennent too it from me.

Oh my, I wish I'd not taken that photo! I'm so mad at myself!

For a long time I'd questioned whether all Solomon Island P jupiter are the same species; I had an inkling that one island group merited a different ssp. "I'll get around to it some day".

So now I figure, maybe I'll refresh that can of worms, and go a-looking. Oh no. I have ONE female remaining in my reference collection. I must have given all the rest away! And this isn't the first species I've had to beg back a specimen. Idiot.

Wonderful pair of P Jupiter .
I have two old males from PNG but have not seen a female before so,even though you are kicking yourself for getting rid of the bigger one, this one still ticks all the boxes for me.
Think it's a very underrated family. Long been a favourite of mine.
