Unknown bug

Post by jpinkney »

Hey guys! I found this at my grandparents house in Massachusetts.(it could also be from another place and travel through flowers) It was on a window. It wiggles it’s head when it moves, and one point brought its tail up like a scorpion.

thanks

Other than being an insect, I have no idea. it does look pretty interesting though, something I'd probably try to keep alive.
someone here will pin it down for you, even though the picture is a little blurry, it's a distinctive looking animal.

it could be a lacewing larva, but i doubt it considering it was as thin as a grain of rice. also i just put it outside.

Probably. I was going to disagree, but looked at a bunch of Lacewing larva photos, and, while there seems to be a lot of variability,
I found some photos that look very much like the mystery bug. There are quite a few different species than the commonly seen
green lacewing.

True. The larva in question is quite possibly that of a brown lacewing (Micromus spp.) -

I think livingplanet3 nailed the identification (the first time) but, now the second photo confirms it for me.

Great detective work 👍👏😎
