Paradise Birdwing (O. paradisea arfakensis)

Here we have another of those grand "species of legend"
amongst collectors of butterflies. An unforgettable species
of some 3 - 6 subspecies; it varies in its yellow, green, and
gold coloration.

I was finally able to get a specimen of this species, earlier this year. Like various other Ornithoptera, it's become much more available (and affordable) than was previously the case. 40 years ago, I would never have imagined that I'd someday have a paradisea in my collection - it was just totally out of reach. Never thought I'd have species such as Polyura dehanii or Charaxes andranodorus, either.
