This cute little compact day-flying hawkmoth
species is widespread on our eastern seaboard.

When observed, it appears suddenly as a little
brown "blur" of pollinating activity but, the 2
thin yellow bands on its abdomen appear "golden"
in the sunlight; thus leaving one with an eye catching
memorable experience !

Great species! I rarely see them.

I get these in my bait trap every year. They must also like rotted bananas.

We have personally captured over 200,000 adult hawkmoths in the state of Louisiana. We captured numerous tens of thousands of this particular species. No doubt, A. floridensis is the most abundant species of hawkmoth occurring throughout all of the Gulf Coastal states Florida to Texas. I have captured several dozens in UV light traps, but this species is highly attracted to fermenting fruit bait traps.
