Gorgeous specimen !
One of the "high-end" highlights amongst the Morpho.
Generally quite expensive, seldom offered....
Bravo.

Beautiful specimen, Anna. Thanks for sharing.
What is the significance of 1947 in your Insectnet name?

You are close to my age. I was born in 1948, on the same day Prince (now King) Charles was born.

So was I. Good year for lepidopterists, I reckon!

The last years for the Old Breed- tough people, focused, and serious.

As an additional, 2nd from top left a beautiful rhetenor helena male aberration, large 150 mm , a much darker blue than usual, photos dont portray luminosity.

Under that a pr of rhetenor rhetenor from Guyana ,large female 165mm.

Are all your male M. cypris of the same subspecies ?

Have read there are now 5-6 subspecies named of this most
remarkable butterfly. Serious morpho aficionados usually
seek to acquire all relevent subspecies !

A daunting task indeed at times....

Anna, do you routinely remove the abdomens and glue them back on? If not, how do you keep the wings from greasing?

She said it came without an abdomen.

I'm disappointed though in mixing individuals into a glued mixmaster. But if it's just art, then it doesn't matter.

Most of my Morpho's come with abdomens
Removed and separated.
I degrease then re attach with epoxy
My females come with abdomen attached, i dont remove and degrease.
The cyanites regrettably didn't have an abdomen but i had a female yellow form A2 - who happily donated her body to science

I think Chuck's point is that this is not "science" (e.g. It would be misleading if someone were to dissect the specimen believing the abdomen was original).
It's aesthetically nicer for a personal collection though.

It would be a good idea to add a label to the specimen's pin stating that the abdomen came from a yellow form female, and include locality data for that female. Maybe one day in future a researcher will use this specimen for their studies, and the information would be important.

Adam.

To be perfectly honest, i really don't think that my collection will be scientifically checked by anyone
Im 76 ,my family are not of same thinking to be polite.
And the way the world is heading i seriously doubt it matters one little bit

Anna, are morphos a specialty group of interest to you ?

Would like to see others if you have them as I am fond of them generally. Would also like to know if you ever landed a (female) of Morpho absoloni ?

That's a tough one and generally even more expensive than M. cypris cyanites. I believe the Venezuelan (light blue w. white spots) rhetenor subspecies fetches prices similar to that of an absoloni female.

Well Trehopr1,
Yes i spent years with a few common species but as of late have gone for the more restricted ones.
Absoloni has no interest for me, im a bit selective as im influenced by visual appeal, typically female, hahaha.
Iphimediae , Schwartzia and Cyprites groups.
As to prices of rhetenor hightoni and augustinae are not what I'm willing to pay ,see attached from Ebay.
Will post a few of my specimens in separate post here
