Two Saturnia of eastern Europe

Here I feature 2 species of Saturniid moths which
are present in eastern Europe. Both belong to the
genus Saturnia and both are likely bred/raised for
the collector/hobbyist market and general fun.
Top specimen: Saturnia spini (male)
Bottom specimen: Saturnia pavoniella (male)
The 19 members of this genus are commonly named
emperor moths, although this is also used for various
close relatives in the subfamily Saturniinae.
I happen to have a soft-spot for Saturniidae in general
so, anytime that I can acquire something nice and diffrent
about them I make an effort to land at least one.

Very nice moths, Trehopr. I like the genus Saturnia also. Pictured below is Saturnia mendocino from California and a pair of Agapema homogena from Colorado, which look very similar to Saturnia species.

Why did you apply a filter to your specimen photo?

I was having some lighting difficulties at the time along with some "shadowing" so, after nine different pictures I had settle on the one I posted.
I really try to use my wife's iPhone camera for most of my photos as she has the top of the line camera. However, when it is unavailable I have to resort to my Android phone camera which seems (very) sensitive to lighting conditions and is far and away a lesser quality camera in general !

You ought to double check and make sure it's not automatically applying some sort of "beautification" filter. For example, my phone came out of the box with HDR turned on which tends to oversaturate pictures.
