Hi, I found this bug in my kitchen today,
Saw a similar one in the living room a couple of weeks back - ran across just below the TV.
This is the south of the UK. It's about 15mm in length.
Thanks.

Those are German cockroaches (Blattella germanica).
Sorry, but it is time to call an exterminator !

Thanks.
That's exactly what I didn't want to hear!
I live in a flat, so bug-bombing isn't ideal - any tips for routing them out without going to those extremes?

Roach bait stations can be quite effective, and won't spread poison around your home the way a bug fogger or spray would.

Thanks for the advice.
If I want to play the role of naive optimist, is there any way of telling if that's a male or female? Maybe it was eggless and just in search of a mate?
If not, I'm guessing it would be nesting in a warm place? I've checked the boiler and hot-water tank, but there's a few places the hot pipes run that I can't access.

doesn't matter if it's a boy or a girl. There's no such thing as 1 roach, ant, spider or other random critter.
I'd try the bait, I have ants and that's the only thing to do, and I mix up the brands instead of just using 1
product. It's a bug world and we're in the way.
