Plastazote
Plastazote
Now that Bioquip is closed, I don't know where to get plastazote pinning bottoms for Cornell drawers. I prefer to order from a U.S. supplier. Any suggestions?
Re: Plastazote
Watkins & Doncaster here in the U.K. supply it & ship internationally if you are really stuck.
Re: Plastazote
Brent Karner, ex Bio Quip employee started a new company called Pin-It Entomological Supply, in Los Angeles, that is offering drawers, plasatzote foam, pins etc.
Their website is not ready yet, but you can reach them at:
Pin-It Entomological Supply
Listed phone number is 213 505 0739
Also you can reach Brent at:brent@pinitentomology.com
I did buy drawers and foam from them already, and I like the quality very much.

Re: Plastazote
Plastazote is just a trademarked closed cell polyethylene.
I got mine in long sheets (rolls) and cut to size. This was most cost effective, plus they had the color "charcoal" which I wanted for a Luna display.

I don't recall which weight I bought/ use, maybe it was 4lb? I use 1/2" thickness because 1/4" won't be thick enough, and more than 1/2" is way too deep.
One thing to note: if you buy the large rolls, it comes rolled, and after you cut it you'll have to spend time pressing it back flat (not hard, just patience.) The difference in price of shipping a roll vs. a stack of pre-cut was substantial; the roll did 20 drawers at the price pre-cut would have cost to do six.
On the above referral, I knew Brent Karner from the olden days, he was a good guy. So if you want to buy pre-cut, give him a call as suggested.
