According to his relatives, he wanted to explore the islands of the estuary in order to find rare insects.
The dangers of insect collecting do not only apply to tropical jungles.

Hopefully he is safely stuck on one of those islands, after his kayak floated away, and will be found soon.

Adam.

His body was recovered today. I’m sorry to report. Here is the local outlet who broke the story first.

May he rest in peace.

A terrible loss, and too early. Though, it seems like he certainly had a life well lived and enjoyed.

This is sad news. Alex was a long time friend.
I first met Alex and his family when he was working with Stephane Le Tirant at the insectorium in his home town of Montreal, Canada.
He was a keen collector and he regularly exibited at Juvisy, Paris and Tokyo, Japan where he made many friends with fellow entomologists.
He travelled extensively to collect specimens, and I had chance meetings with him at various places, in Vientianne, Laos with Jingke Li; in Honaria, Solomons with Jerry Pand: and in Iquitos, Peru with Javier Lopez.
I had many weeks with him collecting in Australia when he toured 4000km along the east coast in a campervan visiting many remote locations.
Alex had a vast collection and intimate first hand experiance in lepidoptery and coleoptery.
RIP Alex
