Reared Australian butterflies

Post by Papilio_indra »

This small selection is part of a group of butterflies that I mail ordered from the Queensland Butterfly Company back in the late 1970's. They've been displayed in a Riker mount for the last 45 years. I visited the company in 1980 and had a pleasant discussion with the owner, Garry Sankowski, after which I purchased additional specimens to take home with me. The company was located in Mt. Tamborine, which is south of Brisbane. The data on the specimens indicates that they are all from Cairns so I'm not sure if they were reared in that area for the company or if livestock was brought to the Mt. Tamborine location. I've always wanted to obtain more P. ulysses joesa but it is surprisingly difficult to find suppliers of this butterfly. If the Latin names of any of these four species have since been changed I'd appreciate an update and will correct the label. Thanks.
