Here is a lovely large pair of another species
also collected in Morocco by the same collector
in the same year.

Or there is a similar one : Beberia lambessanus.
Looks like they, like many other satyrids, can be quite variable. I have a few tropical Satyrids in my collection & also a few from Europe. Not this genus though !!

No problem. Really beautiful specimens too by the way. The name of the collector sounds familiar too for some reason.

I'm sure a few of us know John Tennent well. I regularly bump into him at the Natural history Museum.

That's where I have heard or seen the name from then. Thank You.Have not been to BMNH for quite a few years now. In the 80's I was always shown round by Phil Ackery. Lovely man.

Phil retired about 15 years ago but I still see him when he pops in from time to time.
John's also written quite a lot of butterfly books!

Great that you still see Phil. Spent a few happy hours with him trawling through cabinets back in the day.

Last time I went Phil took me round, it was incredible pouring through the pages of the original Aurelian by Moses Harris and seeing the original drawings.

Once again, thank you very much Jon for your expertise in identifying these lovely satyrids.
