Which diptera family this speciment belongs to?

Post by Worg »

Dears,

I kindly ask for the identification at the level of family (or possibly a finer identification) (see attached pictures).
We excluded Lonchaeidae and we are now evaluating the Chloropidae or Ephydridae.
Thank you.
Best,
Giorgio

It would help any person who may be able to provide an identification (sorry, not me) if you gave some indication of size and also where in the world the specimen came from. I see you are Italian, but that doesn't mean the specimen came from Italy.

Also it may be helpful to explain how the specimen was obtained, any association with habitat etc etc may be useful.

Adam.

@adamcotton thank you for the useful suggestions. I provide some more details.

The specimen is a leafminer (found in chard) and it was collected in a field in central Italy (Senigallia), at 500 metres from the sea. The size is less than 2 mm.
