Gonimbrasia krucki (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania)

Post by Trehopr1 »

This quite large (6 in.+) golden-yellow Saturniid species
of eastern Africa is quite a stunner. I acquired this beautiful
(male) specimen recently and I'm very pleased.

Of note, a species of this genus G. belina which is native to
the warmer parts of southern Africa has a large edible
caterpillar known as the mopane worm. Mopane worms are
an important source of protein for many tribe peoples of
that region.
