Genus:Paradaemonia / Saturniidae

Post by Trehopr1 »

This is a genus of very uniquely wing-shaped moths
also belonging to the family Saturniidae. They vary
in sizes ranging from 3 to 6 inches. They so far number
30 species and are generally quite widespread all over
S. America with some present into Central America.

This larger unidentified species at 5 (1/2) inches hails
from Argentina. Naturally, finding relatively un-scathed
examples is mighty tough given those elongated hind
wings. Many species are very dark in coloration overall
however, the wonderful colored bands and unique wing
shape lends them a personality all their own.
