I love Larson cartoons. Always brilliant ! And his entomological cartoons are always very accurate.

Anyone knows if he is an entomologist, or if his father was ?
How come he knows so well our secret world ?

I've heard that Larson has long had a strong interest in nature, and spent much of his youth exploring the woods and swamps of the Pacific Northwest, and the tidelands and waters of Puget Sound.

Ah, the data label is likely useless, it probably says "Tingo Maria" or "Popondetta".

My guess is that the label's coordinates will lead the detective directly into a pitfall trap.

This has always been one of my favorites by Gary Larson !
He certainly has insights into our hobby that only a true hobbyist would know or understand.
I have a couple of good other ones I may post as well.

The fact that there are no more such cartoons- by anyone- is a sad indication that the study of Leps just doesn't have appeal.

These cartoons posted though do remind me of things:

One government resources person told me that if "Professor DeArmond" ever came back in the country again they'd kill him. And they meant it. It was a personal vendetta. Of course, you all know/ know of "Prof DeArmond"

I don't think I said much about the stunning Papilio I put in the hotel freezer, but somebody recognized it was nice, so it disappeared. On another unfortunate occasion on a field trip, one collector boasted that he had caught a fabulous Copiopteryx and showed it around. Unfortunately for him, he spent all his time collecting, and didn't procure a gift for his wife. At the capital hotel prior to departure, he grudgingly traded me that Copiopteryx for an Alpaca sweater.

As I detailed elsewhere (probably the archive forum) I loaned boxes of specimens to a friend to go through to take duplicates. Somebody, never found out who, gained access to them and stole thousands of specimens- and they knew what they were stealing.
