papilio chikae?

Post by uranus »

Dear collectors,
I found this old butterfly specimen on a secondhand market. The antique dealer wants to sell it to me for 100€ .
I took picture on the market. He will reserve for me...but...
I don't know if it is the rare papilio chikae or not?
Or is it papilio krishna? A lot of look-a-likes if u are not collector of papilio.
But for sure there are specialists here! (sorry photo is not so good)
Can you help me?
Thank you! Bart - Belgium

Yes, this is Papilio chikae, nothing like P. krishna.

If you buy it be sure to get a receipt as proof that you didn't import it yourself.

I advised you get a receipt, not in case you want to sell it, but in case the police find it in future and accuse you of illegally importing CITES I species. If you have a receipt (with name/address of the seller) you have proof that you bought it locally.

Okay Adam. I will ask him. It will be not on official paper, but anyway, better than nothing.

As I was searching the internet now, I found an Art dealer in USA who is selling this "papilio chikae".
Looks bit different then the one I obtained here on the market. If it is really also Chikae (or hermeli?)
It looks like a female specimen. Am I correct?

Hey Crazypapilio,
Yes, I thought so...I will message that dealer on Etsy that he is selling it for 'chikae'.
Thanks! Have a nice weekend!

Hi Bart and collectors!

Thank you for correcting me! After looking into it, I am in agreeance with you and have updated my listing as well!

I’m new to the entomology world and am teaching myself the best I can, so I always appreciate any outside help I can get! 😊

I hope you have a fantastic day!
