Catopsilia gorgophone

Post by daveuk »

A pair from Queensland Australia shown upper & underside.
I saw this one on the wing in Central Queensland Australia but did not collect it. This is my only pair.

Beautiful. First time I’ve seen it! I must say that’s quite an interesting name!

“In Greek mythology, Gorgophone was a queen of Messenia and Sparta. Her name means "Gorgon Slayer", a tribute to her father Perseus who killed Medusa, the mortal Gorgon.”
“Seems to me the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.” -David Attenborough

Superb species ....🎉☺️

I also have a pair of this wonderful species and was really very fortunate to run a cross it in an old collection. Pretty much in A1 quality just like yours Dave.

Will have to post a picture of mine sometime.
