It is difficult to maintain a complete grey butterfly

Post by Freedom »

The fragile long tail process of the small gray butterfly is easily damaged during collection.

Work on spreading it up (very soon) whilst still (fresh)
because these can be far more difficult if it dries out !

Wonderful, that you can actually catch such a species....

This is Hypolycaena amasa
It is quite common species in Thailand and with little care can be achieved without damage, it is also possible to spread previously dried specimen unlike some skippers which give a hard time.

I think that our new member is trying to say that the tails of this species can easily be broken when catching it.

Adam.

It seems like that but in reality H.amasa tails are quite flexible and can be bend without breaking them off easily. Although I found many times specimens with missing tail or two, perhaps even missing due to a bird attack.
