Sasakia funebris

Post by daveuk »

A species that was never available during my early collecting days. No dealers had them for sale & in books they were listed as rare. Since the dawn of the Internet things have changed & this species is more readily available now it seems.Though I am still missing a female in my collection.
I read an article from 2013 recently which said this species has now been recorded in the upper Debang Valley district, Aranachul Pradesh, India. The first record of this butterfly in India for eighty eight years.
Pictures of a male upper & underside from Viet-Nam & an older male from China

I managed to get some eggs of these once, many years ago. I reared a few but was unable to pair them on.

The early stages are more or less the same as S. charonda, which I've reared a few times, but again - it's very difficult to hand pair.
