Bizarre to my eye
Tracked in from wet ground in Central Valley California today. What is it? What is the string like structure dangling from it? Possible clue: stringy thingy was writhing when first found. Now..it don't move no more. If you get that cartoon reference then you may be as old as me.

It's a parasitic worm. That's why I don't eat live Coleoptera or Orthoptera anymore.
