Charaxes

Post by chrisw »

A little while back I came across some Charaxes species that I couldn't pass up. I finally got around to photographing them.

Lovely Chris. The top picture is actually two males. The top specimen is a male C mars dohertyi from Sulawesi & the bottom specimen is a male C mars madensis from Buru. The females of both subspecies have white banded forewings. The female C mars dohertyi also has an outer chestnut band on the forewing in addition to the white one

One of my favorite genera. You're fortunate to have fournierae and lydiae, and quite nice examples, at that.

Ha, I also happen to know where you got that C. mars madensis (Buru)
from. Had that in my hands too !

It lost out to a "fine" Stichopthalma camadeva which was present.

I have a feeling Chris that you are the one who snapped-up that
C.lydiae which I was told was arriving soon. Very (uber) nice grab !!

And uber tough to get here in such exquisite condition.

Thank you Dave for the clarification.
