Morpho sp. and ssp. in Costa Rica

Post by holawa »

Hi, i´m looking for some more detailed information about the Morpho sp. in Costa Rica. As far as i Know there are following ssp. found in Costa Rica.

1. Morpho cypris bugaba, Staudinger, 1887
2. Morpho deidamia polybaptus, A. Butler, 1875
3. Morpho deidamia granadensis, C. Felder & R. Felder, 1867
4. Morpho helenor marinita, A. Butler, 1872
5. Morpho helenor narcissus, Staudinger, 1887
6. Morpho menelaus amathonte, Deyrolle, 1860
7. Morpho polyphemus catalina, Corea & I. Chacón, 1984
8. Morpho theseus heraldica, Niepelt, 1927

I sometimes stumble over Morpho helenor carillensis, but that seems to be Morpho hyacinthus carillensis, which is a different name for Morpho helenor narcissus. But apparently is M. h. carillensis in flying on atlantic slopes of Heredia, Alajuela, Limon and Cartago, which doesn´t fit to M. h. narcissus. M. h. narcissus seems to be flying all over Costa Rica.

Does anyone has reliable information about to Morpho ssp. and where they fly in Costa Rica. And please correct me if i am wrong.

Thank you very much
Mario
