To give you a scale, this Asilidae was a monster : around 4 cm in length!
I would be happy to have an identification of the 2 species if anyone can help or know who could help.

Great photo of the robber fly with its prey!
I thought I'd give the new picture posting method a try: This is a male example of Speyeria cybele letona photographed in Franklin county, Idaho, in summer 2021.- wollastoni

A male Myscelia orsis I photographed on my last day in Iguazu National Park,Misiones ,Argentina in August 2018. Not a great specimen but it was one that I really wanted to see & this was the only one that I did.

Re: Your best live insect picture !
I don't frequently photograph live insects in the wild, but here are a few rather old photos taken at the back yard koi pond (Chandler, Arizona). I don't know if a single common bumblebee even counts lol!! I also don't know the dragonfly species.
The "black water" of the dragonfly photo is just how it turned out. It was not "blacked out" intentionally.
Some fungus beetles, Cypherotylus californicus, at Madera Canyon, Arizona. Photo taken years ago during a collecting trip.
