Zerene cesonia

Post by 58chevy »

This is a female, but the markings are a bit unusual even for a female. Could it be an aberration? Collected last week in south central Texas.

Wow, how cool is that...

A very unique "natural occurring" aberration of the species ! Items like that are simply the catch of a lifetime and a "One in a million...." (so to speak) at that.

When British collectors of old ran across singular "one-offs" like that they reveled in the catch and often posted pictures of their (extreme) good fortune --- in the latest literature of the times.

Some of the South American subspecies of cesonia have females that routinely have these extra black markings.
