Yes these are a bit special. For years they were unobtainable. Then suddenly I think some must have been bred in Indonesia because they did become available for a while. I do still see the odd one offered here & there. Never really cheap though.

This is one of my all-time favorite butterfly species. I long thought I'd never obtain a specimen, but just last year I was able to purchase a fine pair (and at a lower price than I expected). They're in truly pristine condition, and so as daveuk mentioned, it does seem that some were captive bred.

Congratulations on getting a pair. If you have a picture it would be great to see them.

My dehanii, along with most of the rest of my collection, are currently in storage. Attached is a photo that I had among my files, though I'm not sure if this is actually one that I took of one of my own specimens, or one that I came across online. I suspect it's probably not one of mine, as the image quality seems a bit too good for my old camera! In time, I hope to upload photos of many of my butterfly & beetle specimens, as I get them mounted.

Thank You. That looks to be subspecies sulthan from Sumatra. I hope it does turn out to be yours.
Look forward to seeing more pictures of your other specimens when you are able to post them
