Breeding: Vanessa atalanta

Post by wolf »

Breeding of Vanessa atalanta which i did back in 2011, one of my first breeding projects, and one of the projects that got me "hooked" on breeding butterflies. Larva feeds on nettles, in my case Urtica dioica.
Lifecycle information: Whole lifecycle from egg to imago lasted 5-6 weeks
Eggs used 5-7 days to hatch
Larval stage lasted about 21 days, molting 4 times
Pupal stage lasted 12-14 days
Difficulty rating based on % of individuals gotten through to imago(1=hard, 5=easy): 5/5
