Picture taken at 8x . About 1-2 cm long. Appear reddish in color. My guesses : Labor Day fly, fruit fly, baby termite.
PS the shadows in the pictures make the winds look longer than in person . Location in San Diego CA. Found after dark and when temperatures are warmer than normal : day 90 F - night 75-80

Re: ID this flying insect
"Labor Day Fly"? There are no baby termites with wings. It looks like an ant in the second picture, the pictures are blurry, and it's up for guesses.
Ants will relocate by flying at certain times, usually depending on the weather- since you live in California, perhaps the term "earthquake weather"
is familiar, that warm, still, kind of humid, eerie weather, that's the kind ants, and termites will fly in. Sometimes in the morning, and sometimes
in the evening, I find ants usually fly in the morning, and termites in the early evening.
