Neuroptera w/ very long antennae?

Post by Chuck »

This came to BLB trap, Finger Lakes region NY. It's new to me, and unusual. Wingspan about 15mm.

Seek identified it (with high certainty) as genus Ophion. It's not, I'm sure. A Neuropteran?

Long antennae (and in fish, barbels) usually indicate a predator.

This is the best photo I could get.

My guess is a stonefly (Plecoptera) adult, family Leuctridae.

It's actually a Long-horned Caddisfly (family Leptoceridae). A cool group, and not uncommon in the right habitat in my experience.
