Hypolimnas alimena heteromorpha

Post by daveuk »

This subspecies is from Kai Island, Indonesia. The pale female mimics the equally pale Euploea nemertes assimilata, also from Kai, in the second picture

Interesting.

In PNG and most of Solomon Islands the Euploea don't have that white margin. Only on the most easterly island, San Christobal, do the Euploea have the wide white bands; and so do the Hypolimnas. Long lost split or convergent evolution?

Impressive that you have been able to obtain females of so many species. I myself have only the males of most of the species in my collection.

I find myself wanting to believe the latter.

Females of this sub species are probably the most interesting. Suppose I have been lucky to find or be offered females of most species I have.
