Charaxes mars

The males of this species are well known and
popular in collections They are low cost items
and can sometimes be bought in multiples.

However, have you ever seen a female ?

For your viewing pleasure I offer two different
subspecies of this butterfly.

Top: Charaxes mars dohertyi (Sulawesi)
Bottom: Charaxes mars madensis (Buru)

What you have there are two males.
The top one is a male C mars dohertyi from Sulawesi
The bottom one is a male C mars madensis from Buru
C mars madensis is rarer in collections. I have males of both subspecies. Have not seen females of either subspecies for sale.
